At the International Hydrogen Energy Conference held on October 24-25, 2024, in Moscow, the IKAR Group of Companies showcased an innovative cargo drone powered by hydrogen fuel cells, developed in collaboration with the Hydrogen Technology Center of AFK Sistema.
This project represents the world's first application of hydrogen fuel cells in unmanned helicopters. The drone is equipped with a fuel cell and an electric motor with a power output of 120-140 kW, significantly enhancing its flight and environmental performance.
One of the key advantages of hydrogen energy systems is their high specific energy capacity and environmental safety, making them particularly relevant for operation in challenging climatic conditions, such as the Far North and the Arctic. Sergey Anikin, head of the UAV development program at the IKAR Group, noted that such drones can be effectively used for transporting equipment and conducting environmental research with minimal impact on the surrounding environment.
